You overall want to have balance but not completely mirror your decor. I didn’t need much on the right hand side, but did need something, including a little color. The colors surrounding the straw bale all compliment each other and everything ties in to one another. I added in a couple leaves that you can could tuck under the mat, under a pumpkin, etc. You could also add some pine cones or a scarecrow as well. Make it your own, but know that it’s super easy and most can be reused again the next year!
Tricks & Budget Pieces
Have I mentioned yet that I love Fall?! We have some AMAZING Fall’s here in South Dakota so by-golly, we decorate for them! I see my front porch as my first impression into my home. I want it to be warm, welcoming and of course, adorable! All of the pieces in the picture are under $30, most under $10! If you shop at big box decor stores (Hobby Lobby & Michael’s) know that you should never be paying full price there! Hobby Lobby has rotating bi-weekly sales, if it’s not on sale this week, it will be the next week! Both places have an online coupon for 40-50% off one full price item– just Google “Hobby Lobby coupon” and you’ll find it! So, I’ll list everything I got, explain a little bit why there or why I got it and link the websites as well. If you can’t find the exact, there are similar’s everywhere you can shop at these days!
- Wreath: Michael’s $24.99. I loved the neutral tones in this, it allows you to really play with your other pieces and experiment with color elsewhere. The bits of straw tie in nicely with my straw bale. I love how much is going on in this! Because it’s the only thing on my door, it can be full with a lot going on!
- Welcome Sign: Shop-Ko $22.99. It’s the perfect size! I love the ‘O’ being a pop of Fall color and something different! The colors tie in nicely with my door and lead your eye downward. It’s actually sitting on the straw bale, just to give you more of an idea about the size.
- Thankful Mat: Hobby Lobby $11.99. You could really have this up all year! But, I love that it’s a simple, sweet message that sums up the holiday season. Of course the font is adorable as well! Kirkland’s had a great selection of holiday mats that I saw after purchasing this one.
- Straw Bale: Michael’s $7.99 (last year). Bopping around from place to place finding these items, you’d be surprised how many places sell these! (Ace Hardware, Lewis Drug… etc). This piece is crucial, it gives you levels to your display, which automatically gives it character!
- Pumpkins & Corn: Lewis Drug $.99-$5.99. The pumpkins are a given… have to have them! The corn is a little bit different and adds some great color and texture. The very small ones are from the potpourri bag from an earlier DIY post! It’s a bag of gold!
- Plaid Hand Towel: Dollar Store $1.99. Yes! It’s a hand towel! I love the look of the plaid, cozy blanket, but don’t want to ruin a blanket. Instead, substitute a hand towel that you can easily replace.
